P.K. MORE CEO – MAYUR PLY
WALKING THE EXTRA MILE
P.K. More (CEO – Mayur Ply) says it is critical and rewarding to take measured risks while looking to hire people with good track record
Issue Date - 01/03/2013

Q. Selection and recruitment processes play a key role in any business. What processes does your organisation follow?

A. The trade-driven practices are more based on personal contacts, with preference for candidates from within the trade. We have also involved head hunters and the job sites for concentrated approach. Focus on experience in relevant field is desired for top/mid-level entrants but at the level of ISR and junior executives, we are open to the wide spectrum.

Q. What are the major tools of selection and recruitment adopted by your organisation? How effective is social media in tracking candidates?

A. The process of selection is through face-to-face interviews preferably with the line/functional manager and then escalated to the relevant heads. We look for the market/product knowledge and trade practices of the region.

Q. Hiring a candidate is easy but hiring a right candidate is tedious. Do you agree?

A. Ir is true. But, in our trade we take measured risks while looking for people with good track record. Since the panel trade is small, we have a thorough knowledge of who is where and in which market and his or her level of effectiveness.

Q. How do you analyse the competency level of a candidate to offer him/her the right position?

A. A candidate is analysed through face-to-face interview:

1 Knowledge of the responsibilities in the defined KRAs of the position applied for. 2 Knowledge of the standard trade practices. 3 Way of working and problem-handing skills. 4 Reaction to situations during the interview. 5 In case of marketing, we concentrate on his market knowledge/trade practices/competitor activity/product knowledge/rudimentary technical knowledge. 6 Attitude, capability and temperament.

Q. How difficult is meeting the expectations of job seekers when they come over for an interview?

A. Mayur Ply is a brand to reckon with. To be honest, job seekers are aware of our company and the systems. In case there is a variance in the expectations of a candidate, we lay down our norms and are open to minor corrections to accommodate the right candidate.

Q. How important is it to have a quality HR department in place to get the best from the market?

A. HR is not just about recruitment. It is effective management of the critical resource in any business. It keeps the system in shape and controls attrition.
